Perspectives: Open Call for Guest Writers
Posted on 11. Dec, 2009 by Eric Yang in Announcements
I am a firm believer in the value of outside perspectives. When anyone works on anything for a long time, he (she) will often develop biases, rooted beliefs, and blind spots that outsiders are not burdened with. For example, in using Topaz Adjust for so long, I have a very set way of doing things with it. I may not know exactly what a complete beginner thinks about seeing the multiple tabs and sliders. Or I may get my world completely rocked when someone else comes along and opens my eyes by pushing the product even further and for way better images than I could hope to achieve. (FYI, this last has already happened multiple times.) When only one perspective is writing all the material and instruction, there may be potential missed value. So with this stimulating philosophical nugget in mind…
If you are a photographer or other artist who uses Topaz software a lot, we’d like to hear from you to possibly arrange a guest article. We will then spread it among our readers, friends, followers, and subscribers, who will find your fresh perspective infinitely more engaging than just another cookie-cutter tutorial that we may offer. This is especially true if you use Topaz software in a novel way. Possible topics include:
- Your nice workflow for integrating multiple Topaz filters with Photoshop/Lightroom/whatever
- A cool Topaz technique that you picked up that blows everyone away
- A neat way to use Photoshop to enhance a particular effect
- How to spot good situations to use Topaz when out in the field
- How to use Adjust photo-realistically
- Creating wow HDR effects with Adjust or Detail
- Creative uses of ReMask
- Your neat method for turning images into line art or sketches
- Whether Canon or Nikon is better for Topaz (just kidding… we’re not touching that one!)
The list goes on and on – it can basically be anything as long as it has a bit of Topaz relevancy in it. The main thing we’re looking for is freshness – if it’s interesting to you, it’ll be interesting to us, and even more interesting to the thousands of others who read it. To contact us about this, please email us with your proposed topic and any other relevant info here:
perspectives[at]topazlabs.com
We will be cross-promoting our guest articles in our blog, forum, Twitter, Facebook, and possibly mailing list. Feel free to include your gallery or personal webpage link at the end of your article. If you’re interested, please email us at the above address and let us know!

Hi Eric,
I’d be interested in penning something for you. Probably weighted towards the using Adjust in a photo realistic way (with Nikon).

Eric:
I’ve been Topaz forum contributor (larsjames), contest winner (Before and After) and would like to submit articles concerning using Topaz filters. Where can I send a sample? I would like to send along screen shots to complement the piece.
