Topaz Detail 2 released!
Posted on 02. Feb, 2010 by Eric Yang in Announcements
One of the reasons we’ve been so quiet over the past few months is that we were busy working on a new and quite substantial upgrade to Topaz Detail, available for free at the webpage. Behold!

This new user interface is a major step up from the Topaz Detail 1 user interface. Not only does it look prettier, it’s also more stable and features a more intuitive workflow. Instead of having each preset sport a preview, we chose to display a single preset preview window that changes as you hover over each preset. We moved all the parameters into collapsable tabs to the right panel, which itself is also collapsible. Detail 2 also has a bunch of keyboard shortcuts for anyone else who hates clicking around as much as I do. In short, we completely revamped the user interface according to the much appreciated copious customer feedback we received, and (hopefully) made it better to look at and easier to use.
The biggie, though, is that the pre-processing speed is cut into 1/3 of the original Detail! Try it out for yourself, it’s extremely fast now compared to before.
Please let us know what you think about the new upgrade. As always we highly value your opinion, not least because we get many of our product improvement ideas directly from your suggestions!

I just tinkered with Detail 2 a bit last night — so far, so good! So will the rest of the Topaz plug-ins get a makeover with the new interface?

Argos – yes, the other plug-ins will also be updated with the new interface soon.

Sorry to say that I don’t really like the new interface. My eyes aren’t the greatest these days and the small “preview” window at the top showing the effect in action is hard to see and really doesn’t let you see other choices in comparison. Please, please don’t force all of us to move to the new interface.

Finally, a stable Topaz Plug-in. Fast and does not crash like the others. Love the new interface. Now please add this stability to the other plugs-ins in the bundle. Great results when they work.

Been having a lot of crashes in PhotoImpact and Photo Elements 8 using Detail 2. Hope the patch resolves the crash issue.

Let us know if it doesn’t, John.
