    Default Glenwood Springs Dam

As the Colorado River flows through Glenwood Canyon it runs through this dam which I believe is designed to control the water flow and help generate electricity down stream. On the far side of this picture you can see the main east to west railroad track connecting Denver to the west coast and following Interstate 70.

I once went river rafting outside of Sacramento on the American River only to be told that we could not do it this particular day because "the river was turned off". Apparently upstream dams similiar to this one were the culprit. Who knew!

Bob - You're correct on your thoughts regarding the diversion to a hydro-electric plant. The plant is west of Glenwood Springs, and the water is brought back to the river just beyond the plant.

If you're ever back up that way, treat yourself to a hike to "Hanging Lake". This is a moderately challenging hike, with a quick climb in elevation to a beautiful lake suspended between two steep drops. The water is crystal clear, with blue-green vegitation below and a mossy waterfall down the cliff behind the lake. Well worth the walk in my opinion.

Nice work on the photo, thanks for sharing!

I dropped my wife and her friend off for the Hanging Lake hike... and they did not return for 3.5 hours... said it was killer! LOL .. but then again, your not as old as we are.

I really miss my fly fishing in Colorado. Going back in week for a visit... might even move back. How knows?
