Thumbs up (SOLVED) Color Management Issues

Hi, I noticed that my Adobe RGB files look oversaturated within the Detail2 space when working with PSE8. The colours get back to normal once I commit any changes and the file is still in Adobe RGB, so the plug-in doesn't strip it off the profile tag.

What's weird, though, is that the very same file opened alongside in PSP X2 doesn't exhibit the problem when using the plug-in (there's a very slight colour shift but it might be ascribed to the rendering intent setting in PSP, I suppose). The colour management system in PSP is slightly more advanced than in PSE and it doesn't let the Detail plugin mess with the colour space but I think this is a bug in the way the plug-in defaults every image to sRGB from within PSE when creating its previews.

Can anybody confirm that they have a similar problem?

    Regards,
    Marcin

    Hi Marcin,

Thanks for bringing up this issue. Detail has color management that tries to match Photoshop's preview with "Proof color" off. However, we will check if it comflict with PSE's preview. Will get back to you soon.

I thought I might add that I was working on 8-bit TIFF images, if that helps...

Default Adjust 4 -- same colour space problem?

I've just run a couple of images through the new version of Adjust (v.4.0) and it looks like it displays the same problem as Detail2 -- in PSE8 both plug-ins show overly saturated colours when compared to the original. Not so in PSP X2, as far as I can see.

It looks like some users of the newer version of your plug-ins don't have that problem. Could anybody from the Tech Support confirm that the problem is being investigated? As it is I keep using the older versions of the two plugins on PSE.

I have the same problem with these plug-ins and Photoshop CS3. The preview in the new interface seems to mess up colour spaces. I can ignore it to some extent working with Detail 2 but for Adjust colour accuracy is critical.

I work with a monitor which is closer in gamut to Adobe RGB than srRGB and is colour managed. Maybe in other setups the problem is not so noticeable?

I sent off a detailed email to topaz on Detail 2 some weeks before Adjust 4 came out and they said they'd look into it. I followed up with a detailed email about the same problem in Adjust 4 when it came out, but they haven't bothered to acknowledge that.

I'm in the dark about whether they are doing anything about it now.

I'm afraid I still have partial luck with Adjust4 and Detail2. Your updates have indeed remedied the problem with PSE, but now it is PSP which loses the profiles with the plug-ins. Note that I first installed the updates version 4.01a and 2.01a linked here in this thread and tested them with both PSE8 and PSP X2 Ultim. (on both a regular gamut and large gamut monitors), and later on I re-installed both plug-ins after downloading versions 4.01b and 2.01b from the "woodpecker thread" in the other section of the forum. In both cases the results are the same.

    Regards,
    Marcin

Unhappy color issue with topaz adjust 4

Working with a Mac. The color is off in TA 4. I was going crazy yesterday thinking I was just having a really bad day, couldn't get anything right. This morning, was working on flowers, azaleas specifically, and it dawned on me that the color in 4 is off and also unpredictable. I got a couple that looked OK in the TA4 page and then were way off when I clicked OK and went back to the photoshop image. The tone of the color itself is off and the saturation is as well.

Still have the initial TA on my machine, went and used that, and it worked perfectly.

I do like the interface of 4 but as it is, it's unusable for me. I'll continue to use 3 till this is corrected.
