    Default Your Move

These two guys have been sitting in Washington DC a long time waiting for the next move. Detail and Adjust.

Well, perhaps your eyes are better than mine. I expect that you are referring to the chess board. I have a few hunches but I can't see well enough to be certain of any of them.

Hard to tell from the photo if there is more than one mistake but it would appear that the board is not configured properly -- the bottom right corner of the board edges facing the players should be a white square. Looks to me that the square is actually a dark square.

Plus, the man on the right left his fly open....

I think the colors are OK. There is some discussion about the position of the game at Chess Art - Outdoor Bronze Chess Sculpture by Lloyd Lillie - John Marshall Park Washington DC | ALCHEssMIST, but resolution of whether it is a sensible layout.

As far as the fly goes, I think it is a button fly - more images (not mine) are at Chess Players statues at Marshall Park in Washington, D.C. by Lloyd Lillie located in James M. Goode's Judiciary Square & East Downtown area.

The artist's style is quite distinctive and if you have seen the statue of Mayor Curley in Faneuil Hall you will recognize the style immediately.

Good eye Socrates and AdrenalineMP...that was one of them....white square goes bottom right. Images all look like black square is on bottom right. So the board could be 90 degrees off.

The other thing that I just noticed is :
Guy on the right (white: per the layout from wcoleman's link above) is holding a bishop indicating that he just took it or else it would be on the ground....black (left guy) is now thinking about his next move.....BUT black already has white in check!!! So if white took the bishop it was maybe not a legit move...maybe it put white in check and he has to make a different move.

If white took black's bishop the only possible moves would have been Pxe4 or Qxh5 or Bxb3 (unlikely). Each move exposing the check from black's Queen.

color-wise it's hard to tell as the pieces appear to tarnish differently....if I enlarge the pic from that link b2 looks like a different color than b3 but the layout picture shows them both white.

Not as good as you think....most of my evaluation was from the board diagram and other pic in his link
Chess Art - Outdoor Bronze Chess Sculpture by Lloyd Lillie - John Marshall Park Washington DC | ALCHEssMIST

Check my previous post again...I added the possible moves after you quoted me...
