Midnight looks sort of like a bleach-bypass, Orton combo based on the sample you included. If you have Photoshop:
1. Duplicate the background layer (Cmd-J). Duplicate it again. You should have three layers now.
2. Choose the top layer and set the blend mode to Screen. The image will lighten significantly.
3. Merge the topmost layer to the middle layer (Cmd-E).
4. Choose the new top layer. Open the Hue/Saturation dialog (Cmd-U).
5. Reduce saturation by about 70%. Click OK.
6. From the Filter menu, choose Blur > Gaussian Blur. Using the image above, I chose a radius of 1.5.
7. Change the layer blending mode to Multiply. The image should be darker with a bit of glow.
8. Merge the top layer down (Cmd-E). There's now only one layer.
9. From the Filter menu, choose Sharpen > Unsharp Mask. I chose 50% for the amount and 80 pixels for the radius, leaving the threshold at 0. This increases local contrast.
In Windows, I think you can just use the Ctrl key where I specify Cmd.
Great addition to the Orton Technique.Just started using the Topaz software after using Buzz forever. Buzz went the way of a lot of good software because of Windows Vista. Another one is KPT.
