Default remask : how to use pen tool with it

    hallo,
i have a gift picture with lot of shadow under the gift. mask is a little tricky to do there and dodge for highlight/burn for shadow help on final mask but not enough.
it would be very convenient to use a pen tool on the limits of the gift instead of painting with a big rounded brush.

could you please explain how adding a pen tool selection to the final mask.
I am not very familiar with pen tool so please explain how you convert the path into a additional selection to the existing one.

By the way, when the mask is finished, all tuto stop. How do you save it to use in another psd ? do you just uncheck eye on background and solid color layers to have selection on a transparent background ?

I have read that using a selection, decreasing it and increasing it creates a pixelization and we must save the object under smart object.
How do we save a remask selection as a smart object ? or do you advise to save normally and import it as a smart object in the new psd ?

    best regards
    Marc

    Hi,

Thanks for your message. You can actually use your Photoshop quick selection tool to select your gift and then use the ReMask Quick Selection Workflow Action to create your Layer Mask. For a tutorial on how to do this please see here.

After you create your layer mask you can bring your desired background into your project file. To do this, open up your new image background and select your move tool and drag the image into your first project file.

You can also refer to your Photoshop user guide as it will be very helpful it teaching you these Photoshop functions. I would also encourage you to visit one of the Photoshop discussion threads in the Forum for more tips and tricks.
