Create Effects

Even through Topaz Vivacity is primarily for enhancing images, some filters can be explored to make interesting effects from otherwise plain images.
Here is a line-art image created from a photograph.

Here two aspects of Topaz Clean filters are explored to create this effect:

1. Edge enhancing: Using a high threshold value in Topaz Clean filter tends to produce clean but facet image. Here it is used to clean out unwanted details.
2. Line accent: Line accent: By using maximum line accent setting, the line features get exaggerated

Line Accent Effect

In this example, Topaz Sharpen filter accentuate line features of a normal picture into something out of a fairy tale book.

In this example, the line accentuation capability of Topaz Sharpen is overly applied to create this effect.


Another Effect Example

This is another example of using Topaz Vivacity for drawing type of effect.



Enhance a Portrait

Multiple Topaz Vivacity filters can be used together to create interesting effect. Here is an example.

The above image is created by applying two Topaz Vivacity filters, but otherwise no other manual manipulation, of the following image. (You can click on the images to see the full pictures.)

Here's how to do it

We first apply Topaz Denoise/EQ to remove grains on the skin to give it a perfect skin look. Here are the parameters changed from default value:

• Noise Suppression = 1.0: maximum removal of grain
• Noise threshold = 3.05: it is a balance between removing noise and preserving details
• (Advanced)Sharpness adjustment at Radius=0.8: sharpen details a little bit

Then we use Topaz Sharpen to accentuate line features. Here is the setting:

• Sharpness = 1.1: Sharpen a little bit
• Edge Crispness = 2.0: enhance edge a little bit
• Radius = 0.87: we want to only enhance thin lines
• Noise threshold = 4.02: do not enhance noise
• (Advanced) Line Accent = 1: accentuate line features
• (Advanced) Iteration = 6: many iterations for best results
