Subscription & Transition

If I already own the desktop apps, do I need to switch to a subscription to keep using them?

You don’t need to do anything — the switch will happen automatically based on what you own today:

If you own one desktop app (Photo AI, Gigapixel, or Video AI) with time left on your upgrade license:

You’ll automatically have access to the new version of the app(s) you own(Topaz Photo, Topaz Gigapixel, Topaz Video) until your upgrade license expires.

Example: If you own Photo AI with an upgrade license valid until 1/1/2026, you’ll have access to Topaz Photo until 1/1/2026.

If you own two or more desktop apps with time left on your upgrade license:

You’ll automatically receive access to the full Topaz Studio bundle for the remainder of your license.

If you have auto-renew on a single app:

We’ll automatically transition you to the same app within Topaz Studio, and you’ll keep your current renewal price as long as your subscription stays active.

If you have auto-renew on two or more apps:

We’ll automatically transition you to an annual Topaz Studio subscription at the same combined renewal price you’re paying today.

Will my existing perpetual licenses still work after the subscription launches?

Yes — you’ll always be able to use your existing perpetual licenses, for as long as the apps remain compatible with your computer.

If you choose to try Topaz Studio, or any of the bundles or subscription based apps and later cancel your subscription, you’ll still retain full access to any perpetual licenses you purchased prior to the release of the new subscription based apps.

If I switch to subscription, can I still use my older standalone versions?

You’ll still retain the rights to your older perpetual licenses.

Will there be any discounts for customers who already purchased desktop apps?

Yes! If you currently have auto-renewal enabled, you’ll be able to lock in your existing renewal price for the new Studio apps:

Single app owners: If you own one of our desktop apps with auto-renewal (e.g. Photo AI at $99/year), you’ll keep paying that same price for updates to the new Topaz Photo—compared to the new $199 annual cost.

Multiple app owners: If you own two or more desktop apps with active auto-renewals, you’ll get access to the full Topaz Studio bundle for the combined cost of your current renewals.

What happens if I cancel my subscription—will I lose access to the apps?

Yes. If you cancel your subscription, you’ll lose access to the the subscribed apps.

However, any perpetual licenses you owned before the launch of the subscription apps will still remain yours forever, as long as they are compatible with your computer.

Will there still be updates to the perpetual versions of the desktop apps?

We will continue to release occasional minor patches during the transition, but there will be no new feature updates or major releases for the perpetual versions.

Cloud Credits & Web Tools

I bought extra cloud credits earlier. Do those still work with the new subscription?

Yes! Any previously purchased cloud credits will continue to be used for Topaz Video, Astra, or Video Upscale.

Are cloud credits still needed if I’m on the subscription plan?

Yes. Depending on your usage—for apps like Topaz Video, Video Upscale, or Astra you may still need additional cloud credits beyond what’s included in your subscription.

Will Video Upscale and other cloud-based video tools now be unlimited, or do they still require credits?

Not at this time. Cloud-based tools like Video Upscale and Astra still require credits for usage.

If I don’t subscribe, can I still buy cloud credits separately for Astra, Starlight and Video upscale?

Yes! You can continue to purchase cloud credits independently to use with Astra, Starlight, Video Upscale even without a subscription.

Will credits be shared across web tools and desktop apps, or are they separate?

It depends on your subscription. If you’re on a bundle like Cloud Collection, Desktop Collection, or Topaz Studio, your credits are shared across all included apps. Additional credits can also be purchased and will apply across the bundle.
